Best Upgrade I ever did to my notebook
I am
thinking of buying a new notebook since I find my existing one slowing
down. I have done reformating it to speed it up a little but still it’s
becoming too slow.
I am using an Asus K42JC notebook for
more than a year now. It runs on an Intel® Core™ i3-370M (3M cache, 2.40
GHz) processor, 4GB memory, 500GB HDD with Windows 7 Home basic 64bit
Operating System.
First upgrade: Memory
I upgraded my memory from 4GB to 8GB. It
improved a little but on a regular use, I didn’t even notice the
difference. I didn’t even bother checking memory usage benchmarks
because for me it has to do with end user experience.
Conclusion: Memory prices right now are dirt cheap that doing an upgrade is timely
but from 4GB to 8GB there’s no much improvement noticed.

From 500GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) to 120GB Solid State Drive (SSD)
When we got our initial stocks of SSD
drives, I was wondering if all the benchmarks and marketing is
true. Wasting no time, I upgraded my Seagate 500GB SATA internal drive
to an OCZ 120GB SSD.
After the installation, configuration
and migration of my data, I was testing it for a couple of hours. I am
not used to having a 120GB hard drive anymore. The space I have with my
old 500GB is so big that I didn’t even bother about available space. Now
I am confused if I will push thru with the upgrade or plug-in my old
hard drive and enjoy the storage space. Not so convinced with the
results after several restarts during the installation process, I
decided to plug-in my old 500GB HDD. Then the next thing that happened
converted me into a believer. I cannot imagine myself suffering for so
long of a time using a very slow computer when a simple hard drive
upgrade from HDD to SSD would make my life a lot more productive.
That’s when I noticed how slow my old
HDD was. Forget about the not so big storage, SSD is what I want and
what I upgraded my notebook.
Here’s some proof using (CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1-HDD vs SSD)

Conclusion: SSD prices are now becoming more affordable.
For all those notebook users, upgrade
your unit to SSD it’s the best upgrade I made. And For those who are
planning to buy a new notebook or desktops, go for SSD now!!!
Note: I bought a harddisk enclosure and made my old HDD into an external USB drive.
