Google Drive : Cloud Storage Service from Google
Google
Drive is a cloud servers based online storage service. As The Mobile
Indian also reported earlier, Google will launch the service early next
month.Google's cloud storage service - Drive, will offer 5 GB of free
storage, according to a report. TalkDroid, which managed to grab the
images of the cloud storage service, also said that the service will
initially launch in Beta version.
Google Drive service appears similar
to the existing DropBox an online storage service that offers similar
functionality. However, unlike Dropbox, the Google Drive will be
launched with 5 GB free storage on sign-up and those who need more
storage will have to pay for it. As of now, there are no details on the
features this service will offer. From the leaked screenshots, we can
infer that its a web interface will resemble with the current Gmail web
interface.
Please note that every new
Google service meant for public usage arrives on invite-only basis and
then gets hammered heavily for disseminating the invites. Google+ is the
classic example. Google may limit the number of invites and people who
can sign up initially. So if you receive early invite to Google Drive,
consider yourself lucky.
Google Drive may bring 5 GB free
storage for PC, smartphones and tablets, but it would be much more
interesting to see their storage plans to buy more online storage space
on Google's Hard drive.
A leaked screenshot indicates
that the Google Drive will be a downloadable software meant for
computers, smartphones and laptops. Once the user has set it up using
Google Account, all files uploaded can be accessed anywhere through - http://drive.google.com.
