Why Students should use Linux Operating System

Linux is an more developer friendly kernel released in October 5, 1991 by young and dynamic programmer of that time named Linus Torvalds. Now in this post we are going to review the advantages of using Linux over other operating system and this post will be more concentrating on students since students can easily adopt any changes rater than other age peoples.
Before going inside I want to clear that Linux is not an operating system it is just a kernel so it is embedded with GNU(gnu is not a unix its a recursive word) to form a complete OS which is generally called GNU/Linux.So next time when you refer operating system refer it as GNU/Linux than just Linux)

Top 5 Reasons why Students should use GNU/Linux

Low cost:

You don’t need to spend time and money to obtain licenses since Linux and much of its software come with the GNU General Public License.Nowdays most of the students use Pirated version of windows and other costly properiatory softwares like MATLAB,Photoshop,Dream viewer,Maya etc but if you buy all these licenses it will cost very husge amount of money ( Don’t try to calculate you will be stunned by the result)
But Good news is that you have alternative for every software you use in windows for Example GIMP is the best and more powerful open source alternative software than Photoshop, similarly OCTAVE will replace MATLAB,Blender will replace Maya, recently Full animations film using blender is released.for example Elephants Dream is the first Animation movie which is completely made by Blender.Refer this site to find more open source alternatives.

Security :

In line with the costs, the security aspect of Linux is much stronger than that of Windows. Why should you have to spend extra money for virus protection software? The Linux operating system has been around since the early nineties and has managed to stay secure in the realm of widespread viruses, spyware and adware for all these years. Sure, the argument of the Linux desktop not being as widely used is a factor as to why there are no viruses. My rebuttle is that the Linux operating system is open source and if there were a widespread Linux virus released today, there would be hundreds of patches released tomorrow, either by ordinary people that use the operating system or by the distribution maintainers. We wouldn’t need to wait for a patch from a single company like we do with Windows.

Hardware compatibility :

Linux is perfect for those old computers with barely any processing power or memory you have sitting in your garage or basement collecting dust. Install Linux and use it as a firewall, a file server, or a backup server. There are endless possibilities. Old 386 or 486 computers with barely any RAM run Linux without any issue. Good luck running Windows on these machines and actually finding a use for them.

OS for Everyone :

You have only one Windows but you have Many Linux OS generally these are categorized as Distros,If you are a Simple user go with Ubuntu,For developers go with Fedora,For networking go with Redhat and similarly you have Distro for schools students and for all ages. You can refer this site for more info.

You will Learning than Using :

Any finally Most acceptable reason is we actually learn new things by using Gnu/Linux operating system,I will give a example,If you use windows you probably don’t know or very often use Command Prompt but in linux terminal is the Heart of the Operating system and Controlling all other things form a single place cant get easier than this.
