Microsoft Milestone Achievements – A Brief History
Today Microsoft is not just a name; Microsoft is the state of
Computer field. 60% users use the Operating System of Microsoft. We
cannot assume our personal computer without Microsoft. Either it is
Operating System or Office package, Visual Studio framework or anything
else. These software’s have necessary place in our PC.
Microsoft did a boost in the computer technology field. Let’s look at the Milestones achieved by Microsoft.
1st Jan 1975 – For the Altair 8800, Bill gates and Paul Allen designed a programming language that was first programming language Called BASIC. After that, Paul Allen accepted the position as Director of Software Development and Bill gates join him. They both founded a name called Micro-soft (With hyphen).
26th Nov 1976 – Micro-soft was converted into Microsoft with a trade name. Both Founders registered the name Microsoft in New Mexico City.
31st Dec 1978 – Microsoft achieved their total gross sales of $1 million Including their first programming language (BASIC) and second programming language (FORTRAN-80). Till that time, Microsoft has only 13 employees.
1st Jan 1979 – Microsoft moved his office from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Bellevue, Washington.
25th June 1981 – Microsoft recognized himself as privately held corporation with Bill Gates as president and Paul Allen as vice president. Microsoft converted now Microsoft.inc
12th Aug 1981 – Joining joined hand with IBM, Microsoft launches their first 16 bit Operating System called MS-DOS.
29th Sep 1983 – Microsoft introduced the word for MS-DOS 1.0 Operating System.
26th Feb 1986 – Microsoft moved to corporate campus in Redmond.
13th Mar 1986 – Microsoft launched their stocks for public.
1st Aug 1989 – Microsoft launched their first and earliest version of Office suite in the productive applications field.
22nd May 1990 – Microsoft launched new Operating System called Windows 3.0.
15th July 1990 – With completion of 15 years, Microsoft became first Personal computer Software Company to exceed $1 Billion over all sales in a year with total revenues of $1.8 Billion.
24th Aug 1995 – Microsoft launched Windows 95 Operating System.
7th Dec 1995 – President of Microsoft, Bill Gates committed to support and enhancing the internet.
23rd June 1996 – Bill Gates and His Wife French Gates started the formation of Gates Library Foundation.
18th May 1998 – Government filed Antitrust Lawsuit against Microsoft.
25th June 1998 – Microsoft launched the Windows 98.
19th Oct 1998 – Landmark Antitrust Trial begins.
13th Jan 2000 – Bill Gates positioned himself on the new position of Chairman and Chief Software Architect. Provided the CEO role to Steve Ballmer.
17th Feb 2000 – Microsoft launched the Windows 2000.
22nd June 2000 – Designed the .Net Strategy for the web services.
25th Oct 2001 – Microsoft launched the Windows XP.
15th Nov 2001 – Microsoft Xbox launched.
1st Nov 2002 – Final Judgment declared that approved the Microsoft antitrust settlement under condition.
7th March 2003 –According to announcement of its Board of Director the annual dividend of $0.16 per share pre-split ($0.8 post-split) to be paid.
24th Apr 2003 – Microsoft launched Windows Server 2003 It was the largest software Development project in Microsoft history to date.
11th Aug 2004 – It announced a five-country pilot program for Windows XP Starter edition, a low cost introduction to Windows XP designed for first time desktop PC users in developing technology markets.
30th Dec 2004 – Microsoft announced a commitment of $3.5 million in financial support for relief and recovery efforts in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami.
11th Jan 2005 – Microsoft announced the retirement of its Chief Financial Officer of five years, John Connors. He was a 16-year veteran of the company.
30th Mar 2005 – It reached on an agreement with the European Union to detach Microsoft Media player from Windows XP – rebranded as Windows XP N. It also agreed to pay 497 million Euro in fines.
13th Jan 2006 – Microsoft launched Microsoft adCenter it is a service that offers pay per click advertisements.
15th June 2006 – it announced a two year transition process to ensure that orderly transfer of Gates daily responsibilities and after July 2008 Bill Gates would continue to serve as the Company’s chairman and an advisor on key development projects. His role immediately filled by Ray Ozzie.
30th Jan 2007 – Microsoft launched operating system Windows vista mainly focused on new features, security, redesigned user interface and Microsoft Office 2007 also released on the same date with Ribbon user interface.
19th Dec 2007 – Microsoft signed a five-year, $500 contract with Viacom to apply content sharing and advertisement.
1st Feb 2008 -Microsoft made an offer to purchase internet service provider yahoo for up to $44.6 billion, but this offer rejected on 10th February and on 3rd may 2008 Microsoft withdrew their offer.
June 2009 – Microsoft launched search engine named Bing. After that, Windows 7 launched successfully and explored as a great Operating System.
12th May 2010 – Microsoft announced worldwide availability of MS Office 2010, Share Point 2010.
4th Nov 2010 – Kinect for Xbox360 gaming system launched
17th Nov 2010 – It announced the Microsoft Lync.
10th May 2011– Microsoft Corporation acquired Skype Communication for US $8.5 billion.
18th June 2011– Microsoft announced the Microsoft Surface, the first computer in the company’s history to have its hardware made by Microsoft themselves.
31st July 2012- launched outlook.com webmail to complete with gmail.
29th Oct 2012 – launched Windows Phone 8.
